The official positions of the GELDREICH
<< They made honor to their native city... >> wrote Alfons Dreher, former archivist of Ravensburg. Finally he specifies the particular way, with which one climbed in the local functions, particularly the functions after the scribe and the syndic of the city, that let its print until the local regime of the odd time. It had a very pronounced bureaucracy in the whole city but, always remained a privilege for the patricians. First of all it has been decided that the scribe of the city is going to arrange the candidacy of the function of the union. In normal case, the administrator of the chancellery went up in rank on the function of the union, off course with a more elevated salary. This station was the springboard to become member of the advice, particularly, if the candidate succeeded, of a way or another, to make itself ennoble and, to find contacts to the patriciate. Once arrived as a member of the town council, the step until the presidency of the courthouse or to mayor's function was not far any more.
Nearly at one year close, the Gäldrich occupied during 100 years, either the function of mayor or the one of the presidency of the courthouse of the city. As chief of the city, we first have Konrad Gäldrich (Konrad III) that appears to several times as president of the courthouse or as mayor of Ravensburg.

Josef Geldreich, after have been pushed trought his friends of the party, presented his candidacy in 1883 as member of the liberal national party in the regional parliament of Baden in the 28th. circumscription electoral Oberkirch-Achern. It was only in 1887, after a second impetus, that he won for himself the electoral circumscription in Oberkirch-Achern. In 1895 he has been elected once again for four years in the regional parliament of Baden. In 1900, the liberal national party proposed him to put his candidacy in the Reichstag (in the imperial elections) of that same year in the circumscription electoral Offenburg-Oberkirch-Kehl. Josef Geldreich refused this offer with honor because he probably saw, in case of an electoral victory, too many duties for him.
The homages for the well deserved work didn't miss: In April 1889, the Duke Friedrich I. granted him the award of Knight, and in 1908 Josef Geldreich received from the Duke Friedrich II the first-class Knight award.
After having let, due to healthy reasons, the function as mayor in spring 1908, the city Oberkirch named him on 11.08.1908, in recognition of his grants during long years as the mayor, citizen of honor of the city Oberkirch. But J.G. didn't withdraw from the local politics after his resignation as mayor but put a candidacy in 1911 for the function of a municipal counseled of Oberkirch. He died in 1932.
